Senior Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira has strongly criticised the proposed Indo-US trade agreement, terming it “anti-farmer” and detrimental to India’s agricultural economy. As chairman of the All India Kisan Congress, he warned that import of heavily subsidised U.S. farm products like maize, soybean, and dairy could devastate domestic markets, undermine minimum support prices, and strain farmers already under economic stress. Khaira urged the government to fully disclose deal details and engage with farmer organisations, emphasising the need to protect India’s food security and rural livelihoods against policy decisions that may favour foreign producers.
